Look after your home and it will look after you – this is especially true during the winter months, when we all seek refuge at home from the bad weather outside. Here are some things that you can do to protect your home before the winter sets in…
Make sure that the Central Heating is Working – As the temperature drops, we all start to need a little more heat in the home. Before winter sets in it is a good idea to make sure that your central heating is in good working order. Having your boiler professionally checked and serviced is something that you should do at this time of the year, and you should also check on the pipes and bleed the radiators if necessary.
Clear out your Wardrobe – The change of the seasons also means that we change our attire, to prepare us for the cold and rain that comes with the winter. This is the ideal time to have a wardrobe clear out – you can also use the time to put summer clothes away for next year, freeing up more space in the wardrobe, as well as getting rid of the things that we no longer wear. You will then be able to see if you need to add anything to your wardrobe for the winter, so can treat yourself after your hard work to something like this Tommy Hilfiger menswear www.ejmenswear.com/men/tommy-hilfiger
Check the Gutters and Drains – The falling autumn leaves combined with wetter and windier weather can cause havoc with both the drainage system and the gutters around your home. Make sure that you check regularly for signs of blockages at this time of the year – look out for water that is pouring from the guttering or piles of leaves in the drains. If you notice this, then clean it out as soon as possible as the problem will only get worse the longer it is left. There are people who will be able to do this for you if you don’t fancy climbing the ladder to the gutter yourself!
Ge the Garden ready – Outdoor space is not as used in the winter for obvious reasons, but you should still take some time to prepare it for the winter. Make repairs to things in the garden that could become further damaged by bad weather. Think about the high winds and make sure that things in the garden that could be susceptible to them are either put away or well secured, as errant garden furniture blowing around could cause a lot of damage as well as injury. As the nights are longer and darker this is also a time to ensure that you have good home security in place – lighting that comes on when motion is detected, as well as sharp and spiky bushes around the garden boundary such as holly and blackthorn are good ways to protect your property.
