Overwrite[edit]

Hi. If you want to upload a better version, the best way to do that is to go to the existing file and upload a new version using the link "Upload a new version of this file" This will give a better history and is a whole lot easier as you don't need to redo descriptions and the like.  — billinghurst sDrewth 00:50, 20 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Billinghurst: If you saw the Help desk discussion, I intended to reupload the image from Flickr [1], which is a different source to the PDF I extracted the image from. Apart from my replacement for the "description" field, nearly the whole "Summary" section originally came from the source PDF and I'm not sure which ones are actually necessary for this image (plus "Publication date 1832" is actually misleading, it was published in 1895). So in other words, I wouldn't have minded the description being totally redone, since otherwise I imagine I'd have to manually fix the other details to refer to the Flickr page as the new source. (Is that right?) Monster Iestyn (talk) 01:11, 20 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Okay, I have deleted, though I would make the comment that we are not limited to one copy of an image of one person, and giving people choice is a marvellous thing.  — billinghurst sDrewth 01:13, 20 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I do honestly regret uploading it in that state with that quality, plus I didn't realise what to expect from using CropTool (having never used it before). So yes, I was honestly hoping to redo the upload from a clean slate. Monster Iestyn (talk) 01:15, 20 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oh, thanks, just saw your reply. Monster Iestyn (talk) 01:15, 20 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Question about some of your category changes[edit]

Hi Monster Iestyn, why did you move File:Cicindela campestris RF.jpg and File:Dünen-Sandlaufkäfer-Cicindela hybrida-20200503-RM-162836.jpg from Category:Carabidae of Lower Franconia to Category:Coleoptera of Lower Franconia? In my opinion, this is wrong because the family (Carabidae) is more specific than the order (Coleoptera). Could you please explain these edits to me? Thank you very much in advance! --Robert Flogaus-Faust (talk) 22:28, 1 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I just saw that you made a lot of similar edits. Why do you do this? Is there a decision to delete the more specific categories? --Robert Flogaus-Faust (talk) 22:32, 1 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Robert Flogaus-Faust: Hi, sorry about that, but there is a good reason for the changes I was making. Traditionally Cicindela and other tiger beetle genera were included in the subfamily Cicindelinae in the family Carabidae, but recently Cicindelinae is now considered its own family and is now known as Cicindelidae. This was already reflected on Commons with the renaming of Category:Cicindelinae to Category:Cicindelidae by others, I was just updating all the tiger beetle images to reflect that they were no longer considered Carabidae. Admittedly, I should probably have created new categories for Cincindelidae of France and Cicindelidae of Lower Franconia etc., but I didn't realise then the extent of the many categories I would have to be digging into until too late (with regards Category:Carabidae by country and all its related subcategories)... And maybe I was being a bit lazy too. Monster Iestyn (talk) 23:45, 1 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
...Okay my mistake, Cicindelinae/-idae categories weren't actually renamed, but all the categories/images of the former were moved to the latter. It amounts to the same thing really, in a way. Monster Iestyn (talk) 23:51, 1 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you for your answer! --Robert Flogaus-Faust (talk) 17:30, 3 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
