Template parameters
- TemplateData
TemplateData is a way to store information about template parameters (the description of those and of the whole template) for both humans and machines. It is used by VisualEditor and possibly other tools like Upload Wizard.
Existing template documentation
At Wikimedia Commons, it is recommended to use {{TemplateBox}} with either useTemplateData=1
or useTemplateData=only
on the /doc
subpage and transcluding it with {{Documentation}} into the template. <nowiki>
-tags can be wrapped around the arguments, if required, to avoid templates being expanded.
Newly created template documentation and imports
Another option, especially for imported templates, or for users with JSON experience, is placing raw <templatedata>
-tags into the Wikitext of the template, as described in various Wikipediae.

Syntax #1: for people with pages on Wikidata
{{Creator}} creates an infobox to be customized on Creator: namespace pages and used on File and Category namespace pages. See Commons:Creator for guidelines on how to use Creator namespace. In majority of the cases people with Creator templates should be created for people who have pages on Wikidata. Then all the information about a person should be added to Wikidata, which creator template can easily fetch. If there are no data on Wikidata about a person then it's better that you create a new page there and fill it with related data.
The template automatically sets the following categories:
Creator templates
- This template will categorize categories transcluding it and matching "Homecat" field into Category:Creator template home categories.
- This template will categorize some creator infobox pages it into sub-categories of Category:Creator template maintenance.
Usage
{{Creator |Wikidata= |Option= }}
When creating a new Creator page copy, you can click on "preload a creator template". You can also paste and fill the text below into your new page:
{{Creator | Wikidata = | Option = {{{1|}}} <!-- Do not modify --> }}
Most of the fields used by the template can be looked up from Wikidata; however if the results are not satisfactory, one can use the following parameters to overwrite Wikidata values.

Sortkey | Sortkey | Sortkey of the name | family name (P734) & given name (P735) | deprecated

Deathdate | Deathdate | Date of death. See Birthdate for details. One can use CanScan2 to find all the files using creator templates of authors who died less than 70 years ago and incorrectly using {{PD-old}} license. | date of death (P570) | optional

Workloc | Work location | Location(s) where the creator was active. Corresponds to work location (P937) in Wikidata, but currently (May 2017) will not show more than one location. | work location (P937) | optional

Homecat | Homecat | The Homecat parameter adds a category to the creator template, which will then be included in the list of articles in that category. | Commons category (P373) | deprecated
Nationality | Nationality | Home nation of the person that determines nationality; not necessarily the same as country of birth, place of residence nor place of death. See {{Nationality}} and {{CountryAdjective}} for supported values. Dual nationalities are allowed, separate nationalities with "/".
Currently (May 2017) dual nationality based on Wikidata is not supported. | country of citizenship (P27) | optional

Wikiquote | Wikiquote | link to related Wikiquote page(s). See Wikisource parameter for details, on how to use it. | Wikidata's Wikiquote sitelink | deprecated
Lifespan | Lifespan | Usually On top of the template we have a name followed by a lifespan dates in parenthesis. Most of the time lifespan can be assembled automatically based on dates or birth and death, or parameters "birthyear" and "deathyear". But if nothing else works "Lifespan" can be used to add text which will be added after the name. | empty | optional
Type | Type | Allows tagging and categorizing of unusual creator templates:
| person | optional | |||||||||||||||
References | References | Links and other references used for creators without Wikipedia articles. Just as in Wikipedia all the data in this template should be verifiable. In most of the cases people already have articles in Wikipedia or Wikisource (in English or other languages) linked to by links in "Name" and "Wikisource" fields. However on a rare occasion that such article does not exist, please use "Reference" parameter to add references and or links to pages where the information come from. | empty | optional
Option | Option | Template {{Creator}} is mostly used to create custom templates in "Creator" namespace specific to a single person. Option parameter should always be set to |option = {{{1|}}} and is used to pass information from users of the custom templates to the {{Creator}} template code. For example if one calls {{Creator:Paul Cézanne|1234}}, the "1234" will be passed as argument option to the {{Creator}} template. Many options have specific meaning to the {{Creator}} template:
| empty | required |

Find pages with homecat issues:
