Category:Walkways[edit]

What is the difference between a walkway and a footpath? If they are synonymous, then Walkways and Footpaths should be merged into a single category. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 07:41, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Similarly, the distinction between Footbridges and Elevated walkways is also pointless. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 07:45, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I am not a native English speaker, but I think (after a little bit of research) that:
  1. Footpaths are always on the ground and may be unpaved and may have been originated from people taking the shortest way through an area.
  2. Walkways are engineered surfaces or structures and may be elevated.
  3. Footbridges just serve to cross a river, railway, road or other obstacle.
  4. Elevated walkways may be longer and bring you across a wet field, a garden or mountain area, or just give you the opportunity to enjoy a marvellous view.
If that is true (I hope a native English speaker can confirm or correct this view), then they are all needed. Perhaps these categories should get good descriptions, which show the differences. JopkeB (talk) 10:37, 19 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
