Category:Stroads[edit]

This is not a term used by the public. It was coined in 2011 as a critique within the only Engineering community. Here is a quote from a book of the person who created "stroad":

  • "I really was writing it as a way to push back at the engineering profession and get my fellow engineers to think about the bizarre things they're building," says Marohn.

The category should be deleted. Thanks Ooligan (talk) 18:30, 9 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Even though it's a term only used in engineering circles, that's perfectly acceptable to have a category for it. SWinxy (talk) 19:49, 9 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Keep Agreed that it is an engineering term for which there can be media to illustrate related articles and discussions, so it is a valid item to have a category for. As far as categorizing specific roads as "stroads", that is admittedly more problematic, but I don't think there is a problem with identifying the fact that a given 'street' is also considered a 'stroad' and thus categorized both traditionally (as a street) and illustratively (as a stroad). The idea that we should delete this category because it is an obscure engineering term most people wouldn't know/use seems a bit odd to me. Isn't the point of this to be educational? If someone wants to know more about what a stroad is (or is looking for media to support teaching about stroads), then this should be a perfect place to support that effort. •  Keep en:w has had a "Stroad" article since 2021, and apparently there articles about it in wikipedias in 3 other languages as well. Subjects covered in wikipedias are in scope for Commons. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 03:28, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  •  Keep per above. --Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 07:47, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  •  Keep I see no big issues to keep it. --A1Cafel (talk) 15:30, 15 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
